• Renewal of the FIA 3-Star Environmental Accreditation
Barcelona, 9-3-2023 - The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) has renewed the highest level 3-Star Environmental Accreditation awarded to the RallyRACC, a distinction that the international body granted in 2017 and which has been renewed after each edition held. The RallyRACC was the first WRC rally to achieve this distinction.
The audit was carried out by Even Wiger, FIA Environmental Accreditation, during the week of the 57th RallyRACC Catalunya-COSTA DAURADA, between 19 and 21 October 2022, in the presence of the Environmental Officers of the RACC and the WRC Promoter.
The audit highlighted the increased commitment of the organiser, improving the environmental management of the event and implementing the improvements suggested in the previous audit report (2021). Among these improvements was the appointment of two environmental officers with insight and understanding of how environmental sustainability efforts and the sporting event go hand in hand, who ensured that this commitment was met both before and during the event.
During the audit, it was proven that the planning of the environmental management processes of the 57th RallyRACC was well implemented and assumed. As an example, in addition to counting on the collaboration of the participating teams, the RACC planned the distribution of 22,000 waste bags among the spectators. This action was supported by a promoted environmental car that raised awareness among the public via mobile loudspeakers along the entire route.
In its aim of continuous improvement, the RACC will continue to make progress in the field of environmental management, applying the recommendations of the FIA auditor and other proactive initiatives of its own with which to extend the list of long-term objectives. In addition, it is planned that future editions will have a greater impact thanks to the complicity of the teams and, in particular, of spectators and small traders, to ensure greater responsibility in the creation and classification of waste. In this respect, it is worth noting that during the last three editions the amount of waste generated in the sections has been reduced by almost half, demonstrating the effect of the awareness campaigns among the public.
