Comentarios del tramo
Pasado el mediodía los pilotos con Prioridad 1 han realizado el shakedown, totalmente sobre asfalto y muy cerca del núcleo urbano de Salou, siendo Dani Sordo (Citroën) el que ha marcado el mejor crono con un registro de 1:22.7, obtenido en la última de sus cuatro pasadas efectuadas. Jari-Matti Latvala (Volkswagen) se ha clasificado a continuación con un tiempo de 1:22.9, conseguido en la última de sus seis pasadas. Con un crono de 1.23.0, el ya Campeón del Mundo de pilotos 2013, Sebástien Ogier, (Volkswagen), ha sido tercero. Le han seguido Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen) con 1:23.3 y Evgeny Novikov (Ford) con 1:24.2. La mayoría de pilotos con Prioridad 1 han realizado cuatro pasadas al shakedown.

“Estoy muy contento con el mejor tiempo del shakedown y espero que mañana vaya todo igual de bien. Con respecto al orden de las etapas, para mí sería mejor comenzar con la tierra y luego pasar al asfalto. Llego aquí con mucha confianza y con fantásticas expectativas para que todo vaya bien e intentemos luchar por la victoria, como hicimos en Alemania y Francia. Sigo manteniendo la misma ilusión de siempre, una vez superado ese pequeño bache de mitad de temporada, por lo que estas últimas pruebas sobre asfalto me han permitido realizar un buen final de la misma. Ganar un solo rally no hace que la situación cambie, voy a intentar mejorar donde creo que no me va bien, pero se aprende mucho más de los errores, como sucedió en Finlandia En algunos rallies ganas, en otros no, pero lo importante es estar contento con el rendimiento de uno mismo”.

“Agradezco la felicitación por mi noveno título en el Campeonato de Rallies de Oriente Medio. Hemos ganado allí la mayoría de las pruebas y eso ha sido muy importante para conseguirlo. Ahora toca España, me gusta el rally y espero que tengamos algún coche en el podio por parte de M-Sport. Es importante el respaldo que Qatar está aportando al equipo, al principio no resultó sencillo porque fue una inversión muy fuerte, pero ahora Thierry Neuville está respondiendo muy bien, lo que genera un excelente retorno para todos. Qatar todavía está negociando de cara al próximo año, estamos muy contentos con M-Sport pero aún no podemos decir nada. Yo quiero continuar en el WRC en 2014, pero depende del grado de implicación del Gobierno de Qatar. Todos los equipos desean a Neuville, nos gustaría que siguiera con nosotros, pero será él quien decidirá a donde va. Le deseamos un magnífico futuro porque es un buen piloto y una excelente persona”.

Special stage comments
After midday, Priority 1 drivers have run the full shakedown stage on tarmac near the town of Salou. Dani Sordo (Citroën) was the fastest man and stopped the clock on 1m22.7s on his fourth and final pass.
Jari-Matti Latvala (Volkswagen) wound up second on 1m22.9s on his sixth and final run. Just-crowned World Champion Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) was third on 1m23.0s, while Andreas Mikkelsen (also on Volkswagen) finished third after three runs. Jari-Matti Latvala (Volkswagen), Evgeny Novikov (Ford) and Hayden Paddon (Ford) followed in on 1m23.3s and 1m24.2s. Most Priority 1 drivers completed 4 passes of the shakedown stage.

“I’m very happy with the fastest shakedown time. I hope tomorrow will continue just as well as today. Regarding the order of the stages, I think it’s easier to start on gravel and then move on to tarmac than the other way around. I’ve come here with a good feeling, and good confidence, and I hope we’ll be able to do a good rally. We’ll try to fight for victory, as we did in Germany and in France. I still keep the same passion, now that the bad feeling we had in the middle of the season (when the car was not feeling so good) is over. These last few races on tarmac have allowed me to have a good end of the season. Winning a single rally will not change my options for 2014. I will try to improve my weak points, and you learn more from your mistakes (as in Finland) than from some of the wins. In some rallies you win, in some rallies you don’t, and in others you don’t, but you’re still happy with your performance.

6-Nasser Al-Attiyah/Giovanni Bernacchini (Ford Fiesta RS WRC)
“I’m very happy about my 9th Middle East Rally Championship. We’ve won most of the races, and that was very important to clinch the championship. Now we’re in Spain. I always enjoy this rally very much, and I hope we can have one of our M-Sport cars on the podium. The support Qatar is offering the team is very important. It was not easy at the beginning because it was a big investment at the start, but now Thierry Neuville is performing really well (he’s now second in the overall standings), and that’s good for him, for the team and for Qatar. About Qatar’s sponsorship for next season, we’re still in negotiations for 2014. We still don’t know which driver, but we’re very happy with M-Sport although we can’t say much more yet. Jari-Matti Latvala (Volkswagen) s’ha classificat a continuació amb un temps de 1:22.9, aconseguit en l’última de les sis passades. Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen), amb 1:23.0, ha estrenat el títol de campió del món amb el tercer lloc en el shakedown. “Estic molt content amb el millor temps del shakedown i espero que demà vagi tot igual de bé”. “És més fàcil trobar el punt de sensibilitat primer en terra i després passar a l’asfalt”. “Arribo aquí amb molta confiança i amb fantàstiques expectatives perquè tot vagi bé i intentarem lluitar per la victòria tal com vam fer a Alemanya i a França. Continuo mantenint la mateixa il•lusió de sempre, un cop superada la petita davallada de meitat de temporada. Aquestes últimes proves sobre asfalt m’estan permetent protagonitzar un bon final de temporada. Guanyar un únic ral•li no fa que la situació canviï. Així que intentaré millorar on penso que no vaig bé, però s’aprèn molt més de les errades, com va succeir a Finlàndia. En alguns ral•lis guanyes, en d’altres no, però el més important és estar content amb el rendiment d’un mateix”.

Al principi no va ser senzill perquè era una inversió molt forta, però ara Thierry Neuville està responent molt bé, la qual cosa genera un excel•lent retorn per tots. Qatar encara està negociant amb vista a la temporada vinent, estem molt contents amb M-Sport, però encara no es pot dir res. Jo vull continuar en el WRC el 2014, però depèn del grau d’implicació del Govern de Qatar. Tots els equips volen a Neuville. Ens agradaria que continués amb nosaltres, però ell decidirà on va.
