SS3/5 Terra Alta

44.02 km / Friday, 9 November 2012 / Start 1st vehicle: 09:19h and 14:44h

General description

Following a series of tracks - fast at the beginning but then more twisted and between trees, all in good condition - which have been opened to build the wind farm that is clearly visible in the area, the stage reaches, after about 8 km, the village of Vilalba del Arcs, to continue with the stage section already known from the two previous years, i.e. the zigzag on a light brow and the excellent views of the village in the background. Five surface changes will be waiting for participants, creating an excellent mixed-surface stage with a remarkable central section on asphalt. Although most of the special is similar to last year, 8.37 km on gravel have been added at the start and a right-hand bend right before the finish.

Spectator Area ZP-1 (two positions)

In 2010 and 2011 the cars started from the first part of this position, at the cross of Vilalba del Arc, but now they have already covered 8 timed km and therefore there are two viewing areas within only a few metres: the first part is the raised position at the narrow junction to the right, very slow, on an asphalted surface (and therefore without dust) to watch the cars arriving to Vilalba dels Arcs and continue to the second part, which is the same as in the two previous years, a fast zigzag on a light brow and the excellent view of the village and its bell tower in the background; an image that has travelled around the world in only two seasons.

Access: The recommended access is following TV-7231 road from Gandesa, as TV-7333 will be affected by the stage. Follow the signs in the village to access the large car park, which is almost next to the road. From there it is very easy to continue safely along a wide area of more than one kilometre with excellent linked bends. Since the rally does not pass through the built-up area this year, there will be no restrictions for spectators in Vilalba.

Services: Car park, very close to the start area, duly signposted, or in any other place in the village.

Spectator Area ZP-2
Area of some 300 metres with spectacular half-bends on excellent surface, a few kilometres from Vilabla dels Arcs.

Access: Leaving Vilalba del Arcs behind, take TV-7231 road to La Pobla de Massaluca an at KM 12.5 turn right to “Els Barrancs”, from there you will easily reach the spectator area.

Services: A large car park and camping area.

Spectator Area ZP-3
Fast section with several connected fast bends, and 300 metres from the intersection two rather closed right-handers.

Access: You have to access the area of the special stage from La Fatarella. From there, follow the track called "Camí dels Valencians". The intersection of the stage is some 10 kilometres from there.

Services: No delimited car park, you may only park your car on the access road and therefore it is necessary to leave the cars well parked to avoid blockings.
Assessment: Location     –    Visibility     -    Spectacularity

Spectator Area ZP-4
The track changed from gravel to asphalt a few metres before, and cars have to brake hard in this intersection to turn to the right and face a change of the type of asphalt.

Access: Access the stage from Vilalba dels Arcs and follow TV-7231 to La Pobla de Massaluca. A few kilometres later turn right and follow TV-7411 to Riba-roja d’Ebre. The road will be closed for the public from KM 15.4 of the TV-7411 onwards, some 800 metres before the intersection.

Services: No delimited car park, you may only park your car on the access road TV-7411, and therefore it is necessary to leave the cars well parked to avoid blockings.
Assessment: Location     –    Visibility     -    Spectacularity

Spectator Area ZP-5 (two positions)
There are two possibilities: the tight bend with a change from asphalt to gravel which you will find right after reaching the stage, or continue walking in the opposite direction of the stage to reach the chapel of Sant Francisco, some 500 metres from the intersection, with a tight bend on a slow descent.

Access: You have to access the area of the special stage from La Fatarella. From there follow the track called "Camí dels Valencians", and some 5 kilometres from there turn right to reach the chapel of Sant Francisco. After 11.3 kilometres you will reach the intersection of the special in the middle of a field of olive trees.

Services: No delimited car park, you may only park your car on the access road and therefore it is necessary to leave the cars well parked to avoid blockings.

Spectator Area ZP-6
Unlike the two previous editions of the rally, cars won't have to turn left at the spectacular intersection at the end of the stage to take the asphalted road to Riba-roja, but they will have to turn right negotiating a very tight bend, always on asphalt (but with gravel tyres), to continue on gravel on the RT-04 track, finishing the stage about 200 metres from that place to continue then to La Fatarella.

Access: The same as in the two previous seasons. From T-733, between La Fatarella and Ascó, follow the asphalted road to Riba-roja d'Ebre until kp 8.500, location of the tight right-hand bend.

Services: There are no available car parks, and therefore the cars must be left on the roadside or nearby, trying to avoid blocking the access.
