Antonio Zanini: “The aim is trying to make a good RallyRACC”

Antonio Zanini y José Antonio Suárez

Antonio Zanini, European Champion and ten times champion of Spanish Rallies, is the RACC’s tutor of the two drivers taking part in the FIA Junior WRC, whom he follows and advises. Therefore, he is the right person to assess the impending RACC based on his two disciples.

“The RACC team has been taking part in the World Championship for around ten years, and it has been supporting the youngest drivers with the help of the most important makes. Back in 2002, the team achieved the first Junior WRC title with Dani Solà. Then came Salvador Cañellas, who was runner-up in 2003 and the team took the title again in 2005 with Dani Sordo. With the creation of the WRC Academy and this year's Junior World Championship, the RACC regained its excitement with young José Antonio Suárez, who thus got the chance to make his first steps in this demanding world championship. In the second year, Suárez won the class at the RallyRACC, which was a scoring round of that championship, thus becoming runner-up of the Junior championship.

In 2013, Suárez has been joined in the team by expert driver Yeray Lemes, but we shouldn't forget that our two drivers are challenging a very strong, professional rival, who prepares himself and knows how to make good races. With the arrival of the asphalt, we are going to try to shorten the distance to Tidemand, who turned out to be a tough contender.  Suárez is really fast, we were able to see it on asphalt and we shouldn't forget his brilliant victory in Greece. It would be ideal if he could round it off in Salou. They both have the will, but we must be realistic and realise that we are not the only ones having it. I think that, if both of them apply themselves, they can achieve a great result at their home rally”.
