Notes about a new record for Sébastien Loeb |
For the 7 times Rally World Champion Sebastien Loeb there were very few records left to break. Most titles, victories, podiums, all of them are in the hands of the great French rider. And at the RallyRACC he was able to break one of that few left, and a very significant one: the number of stage wins in World Championship rounds. By winning the first pass of the Riba-roja d’Ebre stage, Sébastien Loeb snatched the first position from legendary Markku Alen.
Alen, already retired, had 801 stage wins, an amazing number that Loeb improved today and not only turns him into the fastest driver in WRC history, but also gives him the opportunity to set a record that will be very difficult to improve in the future.
Up to TC9 (Punta de les Torres) of the 2011 Rally de España, this is the classification in number of stage wins during all the FIA World Championship history: 1-Sébastien Loeb, 802 wins; 2-Markku Alen, 801 wins; 3-Carlos Sainz, 756 wins; 4-Juha Kankkunen, 700 wins; 5-Hannu Mikkola, 654 wins.
The following active riders that can continue gathering wins, apart, naturally, from Loeb, are Petter Solberg (412 wins), Mikko Hirvonen (208 wins), Jari-Matti Latvala (190 wins), Dani Sordo (106 wins) and Sébastien Ogier (102 wins).
Carlos Sainz (756), Dani Sordo (106), Jesús Puras (25), Xevi Pons (7), Josep Maria Bardolet (2), Dani Solà (1) and Antonio Zanini (1) are the Spanish riders that also appear on this list made by www.juwra.com.
