The RallyRACC 2013, from 24 to 27 October

(28/09/2012)

Several measures and decisions were taken today at the meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris, some of them affecting the future of the World Rally Championship,  including the 2013 calendar.

The 49th RallyRACC Catalunya-COSTA DAURADA, Rally de España 2013, will be staged from 24 to 27 October as the penultimate scoring round of the WRC. Although the RACC is right now immersed in the organization of the 2012 edition, which is going to take place from 8 to 11 November, the fact that the governing body of motor sports worldwide has announced that the Spanish round will be part of the WRC calendar in 2013 is a further prove of recognition by the FIA.

The Calendar of the FIA World Rally Championship for 2013 is as follows:

15 to 20 January - Rallye Monte Carlo
7 to 10 February - Rally Sweden
7 to 10 March - Rally Mexico
12 to 14 April - Rally Portugal
3 to 5 May – Rally Argentina
31 May to 2 June - Acropolis Rally
21 to 23 June - Rally d'Italia
1 to 3 August - Rally Finland
TBD August - Rallye Deutschland
13 to 15 September - Rally Australia
4 to 6 October - Rallye de France-Alsace
24 to 27 October - RallyRACC Catalunya-COSTA DAURADA, Rally de España
15 to 17 November - Wales Rally GB

Among other decisions taken by the World Council, there is the designation of a new promoter for the WRC, which will be the result of a merger of the Austrian companies Sportsman Media Group and Red Bull Media House.

A series of sporting changes for 2013 have been announced as well, such as the creation of the WRC-2 championship (as a replacement for the Super 2000 championship) and the WRC-3 (replacing the Production championship), as well as the launch of the FIA Junior WRC Championship, which will be taking over from the WRC Academy but keeping the same philosophy.
