The RallyRACC paired with Corsica and Ireland
Continuing with the aim of the FIA and the manufacturers of trying to control the costs of the Championship by means of a series of initiatives that have been applied for several years now, the rallies have once again been paired according to their geographical areas and type of surfaces in 2007, in order to be able to use the same chassis and engine, thus limiting expensive intermediate technical interventions, regardless of whether they are staged on consecutive weekends or not. The novelty for 2007 is that this pairing is based on two criteria: the already known prohibition to change the chassis-engine package on the one hand and the limitation in the use of spare parts on the other.
Thus, and despite the RallyRACC being paired with the Tour de Corse due to the dates and proximity, and the rallies being staged with an interval of one week (a charter flight from Reus has been planned for the transfer of the whole personnel), the same chassis-engine package will have to be used at the Rally Ireland (November 16-18). This is the only trio included in the WRC regulations for 2007. The engine will have to be sealed and a 5-minute penalty will be applied if at the following rally the scrutineers detect that the seals have been destroyed, except in all those cases strictly included in the regulations.
Moreover, the engine will have to be sealed together with the chassis, and it will only be permitted to separate them under the supervision of the FIA. There are also restrictions (with its corresponding exceptions) as regards the use of mechanic pieces. The teams may only use a certain number of them for every rally pairing. In the case of transmissions (gearbox and differential) and spare parts (subchassis, rack and pinion steering and turbocharger), they will have to be the same for the Rally Germany and the RallyRACC, the parts being sealed in the first rally.
