The first time this event was raced under the name of Rallye Catalunya was in 1957 (in parallel to the Volta a Catalunya), and the victory went to Sebastiŕ Salvadó (Alfa Romeo), now President of the Real Automóvil Club de Catalunya, organiser of the RallyRACC. After a break of eight years, from 1965, the race came back in 1973 as a scoring round of the national championship and became a scoring round of the European championship in 1981. In 1988 the race merged with the prestigious Rallye Costa Brava. Three years later, in 1991, the Rallye Catalunya debuted as scoring round of the world rally championship, a milestone that the event is defending today, 17 years later and in the Costa Daurada, with a large record of successes and completely consolidated in the calendar.
