Press release previous to the 38th Rallye Catalunya
Carlos Sainz (Ford): "For me, the most important thing isn't having participated in 155 races of the World Championship, but the results I have obtained in them. I've been in the podium in more than 50% of the Rallyes I have run, therefore I'more thrilled about the quality than the quantity. However, I have to appreciate the effort that Marc Martí is making to support me in Catalunya. He has worked hard to learn to read my notes out loud, although maybe we would have needed a couple more days to face the event 100%. In any case, things can only get better throughout the weekend. It will be very difficult to score, since the Peugeot, Citroën and the Subaru cars are ahead of us. The races have to be held first, and you cannot assure anything until the end. The key is to use hard tires - they may not be as fast, but they guarantee finishing the stage. If you give your best, people see it and are aware of it, even if you finish in seventh or eighth place. The fans know how to appreciate the effort".
Richard Burns (Peugeot): "The Shakedown went quite well. After passing twice through the stage I did a technical stop which was very fruitful. The car started to run well and I felt very safe. On the other hand, I would not amputate any part of my body so that I could win a World Championship". (In reference to Colin McRae's declarations, where he said that he would be willing to have his injured right pinky amputated so that he could fight for the title).
Petter Solberg (Subaru): "We are working hard on the car to avoid all the errors we had in Corsica. I'll try to give my best in the Friday and Saturday legs, which can determine the end of the race. I just had a baby boy, and I'm really happy about it. All my family is into racing, therefore I will not stop him from being a rallye driver, although I will not encourage him either".
Gabriel Pozzo (Skoda): "My former team, Córdoba Rally Team, has decided to leave the Championship due to the serious economic problems that Argentina is going through. Now there are more important things to solve there, and the government has decided not to continue with a rallye team. My goal for this weekend is to finish the race, run kilometers, and obtain experience. I'm in a new team, I cannot ask for anything more, I just want to say that I'm very grateful for Skoda's support".
Aime Chatard (Michelin): "Here in Catalunya it is sunny, and we will have great days, therefore the tire choice is very different from when it rains and it's cloudy, like it was in Corsica. With a dry road, it is essential to make a good choice on your tires, because when it rains, the quality of the driver and the car are more determining. In this Rallye, what really matters is that the tires are resistant throughout the long stages and well adapted to the driver".
