Colin McRae (Ford): "Hemos escogido muy bien los neumáticos, ya que el terreno estaba completamente seco, así que los tiempos nos han ido muy bien y estoy satisfecho del transcurso de la primera etapa".
Juha Kankkunen (Subaru): "En los primeros tramos de la etapa me he quedado sin dirección asistida, por eso nos ha ido tan mal".
Carlos Sainz (Ford): "La primera etapa ha sido muy complicada a causa de la elección de neumáticos. Había mucho barro en esta segunda pasada por Coll de Santigosa y por lo tanto era muy difícil elegir. Habrá que tener muy en cuenta a Tommi Makinen, ya que fue el vencedor del último rallye sobre asfalto (Sanremo'99)".
Tommi Makinen (Mitsubishi): "En esta segunda pasada por el tramo hemos encontrado mucho barro y la presión era muy fuerte. No se puede hacer más en este Rallye de asfalto".
Richard Burns (Subaru): "Hemos escogido neumáticos pensando que el terreno estaría más húmedo, pero al estar seco nos ha hecho perder mucho tiempo".
Marcus Grönholm (Peugeot): "En el tramo anterior, a unos cinco kilómetros de la llegada me he quedado sin la segunda marcha y he hecho el último tramo sin esta marcha. Pero hemos marcado un buen tiempo".
Luis Climent (Skoda): "Hemos ido perdiendo aceite por el turbo y ha bajado la presión desde La Trona. Teníamos miedo a romper, pero al final hemos acabado. Nos hemos equivocado con las ruedas en toda la etapa."
Jesús Puras (Citroen): "El coche con 40 kilos de más, pesa demasiado y no podemos hacer más. Este último tramo estaba sucio y el suelo muy frío. Nos falta tracción".

En el grupo N, la clasificación general provisional tras la primera etapa se encuentra liderada por Uwe Nittel (Mitsubishi), seguido de Gustavo Trelles (Mitsubishi) y tercero es Martin Stenshorne (Subaru Imprenza).

Colin McRae (Ford): "We made a great choice of tires, since the ground was completely dry, so the times were very good, and I'm satisfied about the course of the first leg".
Juha Kankkunen (Subaru): "During the first stages of the leg, I had no assisted steering, that is why we did so badly".
Carlos Sainz (Ford): "The first leg has been very complicated due to the choice of the tires. There was a lot of mud in the second lap through Coll de Santigosa, therefore, it was very difficult to choose. We will have to consider Tommi Makinen, since ha was the winner of the last tarmac rally (Sanremo'99)."
Tommi Makinen (Mitsubishi): "in this second lap through the stage, we found a lot of mud, and the pressure was very strong. There's nothing else that can be made in this tarmac Rallye".
Richard Burns (Subaru): "We chose the tires thinking that the ground was going to be more wet, but since it was dry, we lost a lot of time".
Marcus Grönholm (Peugeot): "In the previous stage, at about 5 kilometers from the finish line, our second gear broke and I had to do the last stage without this gear. But we have made a good time".
Luís Climent (Skoda): "We have been losing oil since the La Trona stage. Besides, we chose the wrong tires in the last two stages. We were afraid of breaking down, but we finally made it".
Jesús Puras (Citroën): "The car, with 40 more kilos, weighs too much, and we can't do anything else about it. This last stage was very dirty, and the ground was very cold. We needed more traction".

In group N, the general provisional classification after the first leg is headed by Uwe Nittel (Mitsubishi), followed by Gustavo Trelles (Mitsubishi), and Martin Stenshorne (Subaru Imprenza) is in third place.

Juha Kankkunen (Subaru): "En els primers trams de l'etapa m'he quedat sense direcció assistida, per això ens ha anat tan malament".
Carlos Sainz (Ford): "La primera etapa ha estat molt complicada a causa de l'elecció de pneumàtics. Hi havia molt fang en aquesta segona passada per Coll de Santiagosa i, per tant, era molt difícil escollir. S'haurà de tenir molt en compte a Tommi Makinen, ja que va ser el guanyador del darrer rallye d'asfalt (Sanremo'99)".
Tommi Makinen (Mitsubishi): "En aquesta segona passada pel tram hem trobat molt fang i la pressió era molt forta. No es pot fer més en aquest Rallye d'asfalt".
Richard Burns (Subaru): "Hem triat pneumàtics pensant que el terreny estaria més humit, però com que estava sec ens ha fet perdre molt temps".
Marcus Gronholm (Peugeot): "En el tram anterior, a uns cinc quilòmetres de l'arribada, m'he quedat sense la segona marxa i he fet el darrer tram sense aquesta marxa. Però hem marcat un bon temps".
Luis Climent (Skoda): "Hem anat perdent oli des del tram de La Trona. A més, ens hem equivocat amb els pneumàtics en els dos darrers trams. Teníem por de trencar, però al final hem acabat".
Jesús Puras (Citroën): "El cotxe amb 40 quilos de més pesa massa i no podem fer més. Aquest darrer tram estava molt brut i el terra molt fred. Ens falta tracció."

En el grup N, la classificació general provisional després de la primera etapa es troba liderat per Uwe Nittel (Mitsubishi), seguit de Gustavo Trelles (Mitsubishi) i tercer és Martin Stenshorne (Subaru Imprenza).
