SS 15/SS 17 • La Mussara Special stage guide

20,72 km (tarmac)

Sunday, 27 October 2019 • First car due: 08:38h and 12:18h

General description

The return of a classic stage. One of the stages that has been in the itinerary of the RallyRACC in multiple versions, will have this year a completely different route, as it was raced for the last time back in 2014 and in opposite direction. The stage is divided into three well differentiated sections:

The initial part of the stage is a twisty section going upwards from Vilaplana. It is a climb of a bit over 8 km in length, filled with hairpins, the first of them gathering the largest amount of spectators, as it is the closest to the village.

The central part of the stage, arriving to the peak of the antenna area and leaving back the track to L’Albiol (cut), is a broader road with old tarmac, flat, to continue with a much faster section with high-speed bends. The access coming from Mont-ral (TV-7045) will be closed at a distance of 4 km from the stage, as it is a protected area. It is not recommended to access this area.

The final part is a narrow road, with good tarmac and a slight drop. This sector of the stage has bends of all types, most of them to be negotiated at high speed, but including some major breaking, especially towards the end of the stage. La Mussara is a special of a bit over 20 km in length, which becomes an excellent finale for the event.

Spectator Area ZP-1

This section is one of the most popular areas of the stage, as it has been used in several versions, the last one, in this direction, back in 2016. There are two interesting points to be highlighted: the first one is the bridge with several linked bends and the second a right-hand hairpin going upwards. You may also access the loop section following a path from Vilaplana.

Access 1: From N-420, turn to the right following T-704 passing Maspujols and L'Aleixar to reach Vilaplana.

Access 2: From C-242, take TV-7013 through the "Portugal" residential area. ATTENTION! The access from La Selva del Camp will be closed.

Parking: Limited, in the village of Vilaplana. We recommend coming out early enough to avoid traffic jams. The 2km-long signposted path to the stage starts in the village.

Spectator Area ZP-2

High speed crossing including a road change. The most interesting part of this area is after the crossing (see picture), as well as the following linked bends, with good visibility, and safe places on the hillsides, to follow the passage of the vehicles.

Access: Following TV-704 heading for Prades, take T-704 (7.5 km) to La Febró.

Parking: There is no specific car park. You must leave your car on the T-704 roadside. Remember what we already highlighted in the previous spectator area: Do always leave a free lane, as all accesses are escape ways in case of an emergency!

Spectator Area ZP-3

Last part of the section. The access is limited by the presence of multiple services which are prepared to provide coverage to the Power Stage.

There are actually two areas, the farthest are two hairpins that appear after a quick downward section. The second area is close to the finish, as the cars go downwards on faster bends. It has very good visibility and safe areas on the higher parts of the roadside.

Access 1: At Coll d'Alforja take TV-7012 to L'Arboli. The Special is located on TV-7092, some 3.5km later.

Access 2: Following the same route of Access 1, continue towards Cornudella de Montsant on C-242 until kp 48.2 where you will find an asphalted track leading to L'Arboli.

Parking: There is no specific car park. You must leave your car on the T-7012 roadside heading towards L’Arbolí. Remember what we are highlighting in all of the previous spectator area: Do always leave a free lane, as all accesses are escape ways in case of an emergency!
