Final Assessment by Aman Barfull, Clerk of the Course of the 55 RallyRACC

03/11/2019

"Spectators and Volunteers helped us to have the best RallyRACC in History"

Aman Barfull, Clerk of the Course of the 55 RallyRACC and Director of the Sports Area of the club, led the organisation team of the Spanish Rally for another year. In his position at the front of the organising team, Aman Barfull has followed a path that has taken him along a ceaseless world championship involvement that started almost 3 decades ago, and that, in 2019, 29 years later, has given him the chance to experience what has probably been the best edition in the history of this rally.

"The organisation team of the rally cannot but make a positive final assessment of the rally. Our RallyRACC has reached a level of quality that perfectly fulfils our vocation to making things right, but always counting on a large group of unconditional people that support us and that, in the last instance, are those who allow us to move forward. Everyone, from the senior officials of our club to the senior officials at the FIA, and even the Manufacturers, have confirmed that the 2019 rally has been a perfect rally. And this sense of fulfilment does not only arise out of the technical organisation of the rally as such, which has already been efficient in recent years, but also of the great involvement of the spectators that followed the race and the essential collaboration by the Mossos d'Esquadra police forces and the volunteers.

The new safety measures designed to improve the location of spectators along the stages has worked perfectly well, allowing us to comply with the programme as planned, and the drivers to extract their full potential on the tracks and on the roads. We have had more volunteers than ever before, but the spectators understood that this type of safety is essential for our sport.

The day after the finish, a WRC Organisers' meeting was held in PortAventura World, chaired by Yves Matton and Michèle Mouton. Many organisers had spent the weekend at the Costa Daurada, and some of them came on the last rally day, but all of them agreed that they had witnessed an exceptional race. Representatives of the 14 rounds of the 2019 calendar attended the meeting, and also of the 3 rounds that will become part of the 2020 WRC: everyone agreed that the RallyRACC is an example in all aspects.

Looking at the condition of the shakedown and the street stage in Salou after the heavy rainfall on Tuesday night, which were literally destroyed, and being able to see only a couple of hours later, that it was possible to stage them both without the least problem, is good proof of the RallyRACC's strength when it comes to overcoming obstacles.

In 2018, I mentioned in my final assessment that the WRC was going through an excellent moment as regards makes, drivers, classes and the many countries wishing to be host to an event of the World Championship, and this year has not been less in this sense, as we have experienced one of the best rallies to be remembered, with fights in all classes, thrill, the unpredictability which has made us stand out for many years, and the tight final result, not to mention that the 2019 World Champion was crowned in Salou.

We were also able to witness the best podium we remember, with the celebration of the team that won the rally and also the excitement of the newly crowned world champion. Those were moments filled with emotions and a wonderful atmosphere provided by the many Belgian and Estonian fans, who highlighted the power of rallies at a worldwide level, and also how good it is when new stars rise in the elite of sports.

I must and want to thank all of you for the efforts made for so many months, summed up in this rally week, all those involved in the organisation, and especially my team in the sports area, all officials, sponsors, and obviously all the volunteers I mentioned before, who are so necessary. And remember: We are all RallyRACC. Thank you and see you soon".
