The RACC, in agreement with the FIA, chooses to be included in the first rotation of the World Rally Championship: Rally de España is off the calendar in 2020, and secures its inclusion in 2021 and 2022
The FIA introduces a rotation system for the events of the World Rally Championship to allow for the inclusion of new organising countries.
• The 2020 edition has been the event chosen by the RACC to temporarily leave the calendar. This decision allows the Club to have a complete year to negotiate a larger implication by the administrations and to increase the number of sponsors of the event, as well as to consolidate a more sustainable financial management.
• The 55th edition of the Rally de España, RallyRACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada, will be staged this year from 24 to 27 October, as planned.
The RACC has chosen to be included in the first rotation of the World Rally Championship, as the result of the decision of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) to introduce rotations in the calendar to allow for the entry of new countries.
Thus, the Rally de España, which will be staging this year its 55th edition in October at the Costa Daurada, will not be included in the 2020 WRC calendar. The RACC, official organiser of the event for the past 55 years (the last 29 editions as an event counting towards the World Championship) has signed an agreement with the WRC promoter securing the organisation of the scoring round in 2021 and 2022.
For the RACC, within the context of the rotation system that will be introduced from now on, affecting all organising countries, the fact of guaranteeing the staging of the event for two years is a positive circumstance, as it allows to start working immediately towards this horizon.
This decision will provide the Club with more time to get more institutional support and more sponsors to fund an event that, considering its complexity and demand, requires a huge financial effort.
The RallyRACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada, Rally de España, that will be staged this year from 24 to 27 October, generated an economic impact on the territory of almost 50 million euros, with more than 192,000 spectators, 15% of which came from abroad, and broadcasted the image of the country to 93 million TV viewers worldwide. Thus it showcases our territory, providing the highest visibility at world level, and contributes in a significant way to generate a reputation of organisational excellence and international projection.
