SS 4/SS 7 • Terra Alta

35,68 km (gravel & asphalt)
Friday, 24 October 2014 • First car due: 10:01h and 15:22h

General description

The start of the stage is exactly the same as in 2013, i.e. in Vilalba del Arcs, with the area that has already become known due to the famous zigzag on a light brow and the wonderful view of the village in the back. Five surface changes are waiting for participants, making up the already known but always excellent mixed special with a remarkable central asphalt section and the final right-hand angle, just before the finish.

Spectator Area ZP-1

Just as in 2013, the cars start at the Vilalba del Arcs cross, so that a good place to stay is the start, at the raised area, to watch the cars as they start on a cemented surface (i.e. no dust) and then disappear on the fast zigzag section. It is therefore an excellent location, with a light brow and the wonderful and already famous view of Vilalba dels Arcs and the bell tower in the background.

Access: The recommended access is following TV-7231, from Gandesa, but also TV-7333. Follow the signs in the village to access the large car park, which is almost next to the road. From there it is very easy to continue safely along a wide area of more than one kilometre with excellent linked bends.

Services: Parking site, very close to the start area, well signposted, or anywhere allowed in the village, although there are going to be some passage restrictions in Vilalba this year.

– Assessment: Location    – Visibility    – Spectacularity

Spectator Area ZP-2

Area of some 300 metres with different and spectacular half-bends on excellent surface, a few kilometres from the exit of Vilabla dels Arcs.

Access: Leaving Vilalba del Arcs behind, take TV-7231 road to La Pobla de Massaluca an at KM 12.5 turn right to “Els Barrancs”, from there you will easily reach the spectator area.

Services: A large car park with camping area that can be used after asking the owner for permission.

– Assessment: Location    – Visibility    – Spectacularity

Spectator Area ZP-3

Fast section with several connected fast bends, and 300 metres from the intersection two rather closed right-handers.

Access: You have to access the area of the special stage from La Fatarella. From there, follow the track called "Camí dels Valencians". The intersection of the stage is some 10 kilometres from there.

Services: No delimited car park. You may only park on the access track but be careful not to block the passage.

– Assessment: Location    – Visibility    – Spectacularity

Spectator Area ZP-4

The track changed from gravel to asphalt a few metres before, and the cars have to brake hard in this intersection to turn to the right and face a change of the type of asphalt.

Access: Access the stage from Vilalba dels Arcs and follow TV-7231 to La Pobla de Massaluca. A few kilometres later turn right and follow TV-7411 to Riba-roja d’Ebre. The road will be closed for the public from KM 15.4 of the TV-7411 onwards, some 800 metres before the intersection.

Services: No delimited car park, you may only park your car on the access road TV-7411, and therefore it is necessary to leave the cars well parked to avoid blockings.

– Assessment: Location    – Visibility    – Spectacularity

Spectator Area ZP-5 (two positions)

There are two possibilities: the tight bend with a change from asphalt to gravel which you will find right after reaching the stage, or continue walking in the opposite direction of the stage to reach the chapel of Sant Francisco, some 500 metres from the intersection, with a tight bend on a slow descent.

Access: You have to access the area of the special stage from La Fatarella. From there follow the track called "Camí dels Valencians", and some 5 kilometres from there turn right to reach the chapel of Sant Francisco. After 11.3 kilometres you will reach the intersection of the special in the middle of a field of olive trees.

Services: No car park, you may only park your car on the access road, trying not to block the passage.

Spectator Area ZP-6

Like in 2012 and 2013, and as opposed to the two previous editions, the spectacular intersection at the end of the stage is a very tight angle to the right, on asphalt (but with tyres that are carrying gravel), that continues with a gravel section on the RT-04 track, 200 metres from the finish, to move on to La Fatarella.

Access: The same as in the three years in which this stage was raced. From T-733, between La Fatarella and Ascó, follow the asphalted road to Riba-roja d'Ebre until kp 8.500, location of the tight right-hand bend.

Services: No car parking areas. You may only park on the road or nearby, obviously trying not to block the passage.
