The 47 RallyRACC Catalunya-COSTA DAURADA, Rally de España 2011, penultimate round of the WRC will be starting in one month, with an official starting ceremony at the podium in Salou, on 20 October. The competitive part of the rally will be staged from 21 to 23 October with a total distance of 1,589.90 km, 406.52 of which correspond to the 18 special stages, meaning that 25.57% of the total distance will be timed. As in the last six seasons, the nerve centre of the event (service park, rally headquarters and media centre) will be located in the PortAventura theme park.
In this truly engine-warming-up period, RallyRACC announces another novelty: the participation in social networks via twitter.com/rallyRACC. This official channel on twitter is having its debut today and will give way to the first live broadcast of the Spanish round of the championship using this innovative system.
The @rallyRACC profile starts with pre-event news and will offer a detailed follow-up of all days and novelties during the race, just as they are happening: live information, minute by minute. The excitement of the world rally championship, together with the dynamism offered by twitter will allow fans to experience live racing as never before, without actually having to be on site. Moreover, all followers, fans and spectators in general will be able to participate in the official hashtag of the race #rallyRACC, which will include prizes and contests for all those who wish to follow this channel.
This novelty rounds-off the comprehensive information about the race and the WRC offered by the official website www.rallyracc.com, where all those interested will be able to get more details about all data, documents and timing of the participants. This website, which has become one of the most dynamic of the world championship, receives 354,000 visits with more than 6 million hits.
Top level entry
With the entry period closed and the entry list at the FIA for approval, it can already be said that the participation in this penultimate round of the 2011 WRC will be top level, with all teams registered in the WRC and the support championship PWRC (Production) and SWRC (Super 2000) at the start, including a total of 10 world champions of different classes and 4 official teams.
Mixed day, almost new
The Rally de España 2011 arrives with a top level evolution of the mixed character it adopted for the first time in 2010, with an innovative first rally day made-up by two loops of 3 different stages, one of them completely new, on gravel, and the other two mixed, i.e. gravel-tarmac. The last stage of the day will have an added difficulty as it will be run at night. Regardless of this special feature, the RallyRACC continues to be basically a tarmac race, as this is the surface that will be used on the following two days, including two completely new stages, one changed stage and three which were left unchanged from 2010, thus creating a different round of the WRC.
